On a mission to find first-class quality? Then you've come to the right place. BACCHANTE CRAFTS stands first and foremost for high-quality slate products and outstanding customer service.
In North Wales, slate quarrying was an important industry, both as an employer and an exported on a global sale. It had an important impact on local economy, culture and history. There were many speculative sites, medium sized workings, and some huge quarries run by the giants of the industry. These large quarries employed over 3000 men. The main production areas around Blaenau Ffestiniog, Bethesda, Llanberis, Nantlle, Corris and Llangollen/Glyn Ceiriog. Today, the boom years are over for the industry, although there are still working quarries producing slate for the building industry. Some quarries have diversified, and this is where we come in:
We buy in the raw sawn & split slate sourced from quarries at Bethesda. The slate is then polished to give it the fine quality finish our products require. The designs are screen printed individually onto the slate using specialised ink. The processes along with the nature of the slate go into making unique products.
Bacchante Crafts is a small business run by initially husband and wife team, John and Jo Rowlands. They started the business in 1978 working from home, producing hand printed slate coasters and pendants. The company has been taken over by Barbara and Graham Faulks continuing with the high standard of work. Our premises are set in the Leighton estate on the outskirts of Welshpool. We have a standard stock line of designs and products, but the majority of our business is commissioned for promotional purposes or special event commemoratives and trophies
